Product Overview
The new MB2236adw ($229.99) is part of the Lexmark Two Series intended for small businesses, teams or start-ups. It prints at up to 36 ppm and includes standard printing, copying, scanning and faxing features. It also has a two-line LCD display panel.
There’s a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of memory that’s not expandable. First-page-out-time is up to 8 seconds. PCL and PostScript printing language are supported. USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity are standard. The MFP also weighs 22 pounds, so it’s compact to fit on any desktop.
More details are in our Features section below.
The MB2236adw is a robust multifunctional device designed for small businesses that don’t need color output.
Features
Paper handling starts with a 250-sheet tray and a single-sheet manual bypass. There’s no additional paper options. The trays can accept paper from envelope-size up to legal-sized (8.5″ x 14″).
Output is a 150-sheet bin. Duplexing is standard. There’s a 50-sheet automatic document feeder.
The maximum monthly duty cycle is 30,000 pages, however, Lexmark recommends a monthly page volume range of 250 to 2,500 pages.
The scanning function supports a single-sided speed of up to 23 ppm as well as color scanning. Scanning destinations include USB, email or FTP. File formats supported are PDF, JPEG and TIFF.
As with its older printers and MFPs, the MB2236adw uses Lexmark’s Unison Toner. The Unison Toner’s print system has a separate toner, imaging unit and fuser, using a multi-piece architecture design that leads to reduced toner waste and long-life system reliability.
It also prints at up to 1,200 dpi for crisper print quality. And it alerts users when supplies are needed (e.g., low toner warning and number of pages left to print).
Just like it’s done for many years, Lexmark offers its Return Program, which is a loyalty program that provides customers with a free high-yield toner cartridge for every 10 toner cartridges sent back to Lexmark for recycling. It also provides a free imaging kit when needed. Consumable prices under the Return Program tend to be significantly cheaper.
Users have a choice of a 1,200-page cartridge, 3,000-page high-yield aftermarket cartridge, or the 6,000-page extra-high-capacity toner. We don’t have the cartridge prices to calculate the cost per page, but we expect operating costs to be reasonable based on Lexmark’s history of low consumables costs.
Users can also take advantage of other features to help keep printing costs down, such as sleep mode and duplexing.
The MB2236adw includes strong security features that’s present on Lexmark’s other printers and MFPs. Some of those features include user authentication, network security, document security, and secure remote management.
Finally, there’s a one-year limited warranty.
