Product Overview
Arcplan delivers its BI functionality through its Enterprise platform. Enterprise allows users to integrate data from over 25 sources (i.e. ERP, relational databases, OLAP, SAP, Oracle, IBM, etc) into the report or dashboard. Also, the platform itself can be integrated into existing IT hardware without the need to purchase additional infrastructures.
Not only can users create reports and dashboards, but they can perform other analytical functions, such as what-if scenarios. And the reports, dashboards, and other analytical functions can be personalized for dedicated end-users (for example, a what-if scenario on future revenue for the Sales department). The Enterprise platform can also be downloaded as a mobile app, due to its HTML5 technology. Users can access their data as easily from their mobile devices as from their PCs.
Another solution to consider is the Engage platform. With the Engage platform, arcplan considers not just top executives but every employee as a BI user. Users can share data within the organization and collaborate with one another. The Engage platform also utilizes Web 2.0 functionality, where users can rate and comment on dashboards and data, much like other social networking tools. And much like social networking, users can have their own “BI Wall” with personalized data and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Features
arcplan’s solutions have many features, some of which are indicated below. One unique feature we’d like to point out is the “BI Wall” employed in its Engage platform. BI Wall works like a social media site, such as Facebook, where users can receive ratings and comments on their dashboard. arcplan also has a chart animation functionality so users can better detect patterns within their data.
arcplan’s most recent version, version 8.5, offers more features in the area of predictive analytics. Such features include integration with the statistical R function and the SimplyFinance solution. SimplyFinance is a financial planning software that provide pre-configured dashboards with an overview of financial KPI data.

Implementation/Integration
Arcplan provides a five-step implementation process that consists of:
- Discovery – Technical and functional specifications are defined
- Prototype – Evaluating client’s database environment for best practice applications
- Implement & Refine – Solution is implemented (either from stratcth or Arcplan’s Application Framework) and documents and reports are created and set up .
- Validate – Solution is tested before delivering final specifications to client.
- Launch – Solution goes live; also Arcplan provides end-user training during this phase.
Customer Service & Support
Customers can access the Arcplan Arc-community forum, as well as the Answers support system. Both requires online registration with Answers only being available to Arcplan users.
Shortcomings
arcplan does not offer the ability to automatically schedule reports. It also has limited ad-hoc and mobile capabilities, although recent upgrades have improved upon those features.
