Synerion At A Glance

Good: Strong security features for time clock hardware.
Bad: Payroll is available as an integration, but not a standard module.
Bottom Line: Robust solution packages for any size company to securely track employee hours and reduce labor costs.

Product Overview

Synerion includes time and attendance in the product suite for its workforce management solutions. The vendor offers two versions: Agile for small to mid-sized companies and Enterprise for large to enterprise-sized companies.

Here’s a list of all seven of Synerion’s modules found within these two packages:

  1. Time and Attendance
  2. Labor Costing
  3. Staff Scheduling
  4. Absence Management
  5. Self Service
  6. Business Management
  7. Data Collection

For the purposes of this review, we’ve highlighted the features most closely related to time clock software and have focused on the Time and Attendance, Staff Scheduling and Absence Management modules.

Features

While Synerion offers a full suite of workforce solutions, the following three features are most relevant to time clock software needs:

Time clock hardware: Synerion offers many types of time clocks such as digital touchscreen, numeric keypad and biometric scanning. Employees are able to use several methods to clock in, including scanning a barcode or magnetic strip badge, using a handprint or fingerprint, or punching a keypad. For additional security, managers can also transfer time clock data physically using a portable memory device as opposed to in the cloud automatically.

Employee scheduling: Time sheets allow employers to track salaried and hourly employees based on the time spent on projects, tasks and job duties. This helps the business calculate its most profitable areas for project reporting and determining labor costs. Tools such as “Copy Last Week” help automate the scheduling process week after week. As employees clock in, their hours automatically fill generated time sheets and are processed for the pay period. Holidays, vacation time, compensation time, FMLA time, sick time and even jury duty are all tracked within the system.

Absence management: Absence planning, absence tracking and the request/approval process can be done more strategically with the system. Synerion Direct is a self-service feature allowing employees and managers to quickly communicate anything pertaining to their jobs. This helps prevent a company from paying excessive overtime or being short-staffed. Real-time alerts tell managers when a time-off request is made so they can respond swiftly. Built-in reports can compare projected staffing levels to actual ones to help forecast labor costs.
